The trip & first evening

Our Wednesday started very early, alarms went off at 5am to get ready for our bus trip to the BER airport. With sleepy eyes we made our way to the bus stop (thank you Ola's mom & dad :) ) and after a short wait hopped on the bus. The ride was very smooth, even avoided all border control.

At the airport we wanted to wrap our check-in backpack with plastic foil for protection, but the only machine at the whole airport was conveniently broken... So we decided to rely on tightening the straps and keeping our fingers crossed 🙄 (spoilers, everything was fine).

Then it finally came time to board our flight to Heathrow Airport. With a small pretzel snack and a slight delay we landed safely at this monster of an airport. Passing through another security check, and a transit train to the terminal we found ourselves with a few hours on our hands. These hours were spent refueling our phones with electricity and ourselves with a pizza (slightly overpriced but acceptable).

Then it came time for boarding the biggest plane either of us have ever flown with, the Airbus A380. The walk to our seats took us through business class and first class, which were both looking very impressive. Our own seats not much worse either. With a gigantic selection of movies ranging from old classics to new releases, we were guaranteed to not spend a boring moment during our upcoming 13 hour flight.

After finishing our movie session, we got ready for a short but important sleeping break. To minimise our jetlag, we decided to keep our sleep to 4-5 hours so we would be able to go to bed at a reasonable hour once we arrive.

And arrive we did. As soon as we stepped out of the plane, the humid and warm air hit us right away - we knew we are no longer in Europe. We made our way through the arrival hall and kept our fingers crossed for the backpack to arrive, which it did in pristine condition.

After checking in to our hostel, we were both absolutely starving, we hadn't had anything to eat but a measly airline breakfast. But that was about to change fast. A short stroll, and we found ourselves at a popular Hawker center in the heart of Chinatown. For a whopping 10€ we got two amazing full-sized bowls of noodle soup, both of which packed with flavor and spices, plus a freshly squeezed glass of absolutely phenomenal sugar cane juice. Couldn't have wished for a better start to the trip.

We took a short walk through Chinatown to finish the evening, and headed back to the hostel to wash off the travelling from our bodies. Feeling refreshed but definitely ready for a good night's rest

Stay tuned for more! 😁
